Crashes
Status: some fixes released; specific crashes still under investigation. Patch 1.0.2, dated September 11, introduced crash fixes across platforms. That announcement also identified further Xbox Series S stability work.
In the September 17 developer update, the team was still investigating crashes when Loomis enters a match, crashes at single-player chapter results, and increased reports on Xbox Series X|S. The chapter results crashes were reported most often after the Prologue and Chapter 3.
These are named scenarios from an official announcement, not a diagnosis for every crash. The developer did not provide one universal repair procedure in that update. If your symptom matches, use the reporting details at the end of this page rather than assuming that a community workaround is a confirmed fix.
Progress not saving
Status: historical player reports; a general progress-restoration fix is not confirmed by the reviewed official notes. A Steam discussion posted September 9 describes missing match summaries and kills, statistics, or progress not updating in the menu. Replies describe different experiences, including one player initially receiving XP and another later reporting that tracking resumed without restoring earlier statistics.
Those posts document what players reported then. They do not prove a current server outage, permanent save corruption, or that every missing-progress case has the same cause.
Patch 1.0.2 specifically fixed an issue where leaving a match as a Spectator gave no XP. That is narrower than a fix for all missing saves or statistics. The reviewed announcement does not promise retroactive restoration of lost progress, and this page cannot confirm a general recovery procedure.
Challenges not tracking
Status: named fixes released; some tracking problems remained under investigation in the September 17 update. Patch 1.0.2 lists fixes for escort and survival challenges, Weight of the Mask, Rachel’s Superstitious Tools and Ward Off Evil, Hatchet’s Wheels Clipped, and Kitchen Knife’s Edge of the Blade. Story Mode fixes cover Prologue Challenge 6, Chapter 2 Challenge 6, Chapter 4 Challenge 2, and Chapter 5 Challenge 1.
The later September 17 announcement still lists Thomas — Linebacker, Rachel — Superstitious Tools, Alexis — Craftswoman, and Laurie — Quick Thinking for fixes or adjustments. Superstitious Tools appears in both announcements: an earlier named fix does not establish that every tracking condition was resolved.
The same update explains that Weapon Progressive Challenges require the corresponding weapon even where the instructions were unclear. This is an official clarification of a completion condition, not a guarantee that it repairs every missing-progress report.
For Story Mode, the developer says all challenges are technically completable while acknowledging difficulty with Chapter 2 Challenge 6, Chapter 4 Challenges 5 and 6, and Chapter 5 Challenge 6. Proposed adjustments are not already-released fixes. These statements come from the developer; they are not independent tests of every challenge on every platform.
Story chapters restarting
Status: dated player reports; the reviewed official sources do not confirm a universal chapter-restart fix. In a September 9 Steam thread, the original poster reports returning to the start after completing Chapter 2 and being unable to enter Chapter 3. Replies describe similar progression symptoms in other chapters.
The September 17 official update separately confirms investigation of crashes at the after-action report screen, especially after the Prologue and Chapter 3. A crash at chapter results and a chapter restarting are different reported symptoms. The sources do not establish that they share one cause or one solution.
Do not read these older reports as proof that the same loop still affects every current build. No verified sequence of restarting, replaying, or reinstalling is established here as a reliable way to unlock the next chapter or recover progress.
Prestige problems
Status: specific fixes announced in Patch 1.0.2. The September 11 patch notes say Prestige Challenges were re-enabled and a bug that prevented matchmaking while a Prestige Challenge was active was fixed.
An addendum labelled September 11, 5:15 PM PST describes a brief problem with Weapon Prestige Challenges not displaying correctly, including missing criteria text. The developer said this issue should be resolved and instructed players to restart the game for those changes to take effect.
That restart instruction applies to the identified post-patch Prestige display issue. It is not a general instruction for restoring lost saves, XP, or chapter completion. The announcement does not guarantee that historical missing Prestige progress is restored.
Reporting an unresolved issue
The September 17 official update asks players experiencing performance issues or crashes to email htghelpdesk@illfonic.com with:
- Your player username and platform.
- Your device specifications.
- The match, environment, and actions leading up to the problem.
- Any other relevant details.
For achievement or trophy problems, the same announcement requests your username, platform, and relevant details. These are the developer’s reporting instructions, not a promised response time or guaranteed fix.
This status check uses the September 11 patch notes and September 17 follow-up. Player threads support historical symptoms only; official statements establish what the developer reported fixing or investigating. Neither proves the present condition of every account.
